Jennifer Garner was born on 17 April 1972 in Houston, Texas but was raised in Charleston, West Virginia. William John Garner is her father. He worked as chemical engineers for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local school. In the hopes of following the footsteps of her father, she graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. She moved into New York in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. The Broadway role was accompanied by work in a local eatery. Her first husband Scott Foley met her on the television show "Felicity," where she was a guest. Garner had her breakthrough in"the romantic comedy "13 Going on 30" where she played a teenager trapped in an adult's body. Garner picked Gary Winick to direct the film. They continued to look for other projects until Winick's death in 2011. In 2009, Garner was named an ambassador to the arts for Save the Children U.S.A. This role entails promoting nutritional literacy, education and early education. Since 2014, Garner has been a member of the board of trustees for this group, promoting early childhood education. Being a part of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) program's ambassador team Garner regularly visits families to provide them with strategies to inspire their kids to be successful.
